Introduction of the Flapper Girl

Louise Brooks

Many women during the 1920's tried to achieve an oriental doll look with their pale skin and done up eyes. The favored cut of this decade was the super short bob cut. Only to be outdone in shortness by Eton Crop, where hair was cut very short and close to the head, then slicked back with hair oil to complete the boy-look. Finger waves and pin curls also became fashionable at this time.
Eyebrows at the time were extremely thin and often removed then redrawn even higher. An early version of eyeliner containing soot, lead and goose grease was used to make the eyes stand out, some used rice powder to achieve the deadly white skin . A fashionable flapper had short sleek hair, a shorter than average shapeless shift dress and a chest as flat as a little boy. As long as they looked boyish they looked fashionable.

Flapper women were known for their behavior and definitely "pushed the envelope" of what was acceptable and "lady-like".They drank (often in public), smoked cigarettes through long holders, and were sexually liberated, throwing "petting parties", equivalent to the modern sex party. The flappers even had their own vocabulary, with expressions such as "snugglepup", being a man who attended a petting party, and "bamey-mugging" a term for having sex.

Just do your time

source sandrarose
Well I guess the law works for some of us in this country, and I have a grin on my face right now. The Brat seems to have recently been thrown the book my a judge in Atlanta, who wasn't grinning at the fact that The Brat permanently disfigured some waitress/model in the club. Well ladies hold on to your panties because The Brat is coming to visit for about 12 months.

Good Women Stand UP!

Women are like apples on trees.
The best ones are at the top of the tree.
Men don’t want to reach for the good ones because
they're afraid of falling and getting hurt.Instead,
they get the rotten apples the onesfrom the ground that are not as good, but easy.
So the apples up top think something is wrong with them,
when in reality they're amazing.
They just have to wait for the right man to come along,
the one who is brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree and snatch them up."

Dame Dash or Damn Dummy

Ok well we all know that everything isn't everything with Damon Dash since his break-up with the Jigga Man. The real reasons behind the two parting ways are still speculated and truly unknown, maybe Jigga got tired of the same tired ol' two step from Dash in his videos. It's been reported that Dash has been going through some tough times financially lately and it appears his bad streak continues. At one point in time he seemed to be on top of the world in the music industry and now friends are far and few.First Jigga dicked him with a payout from Rocawear somewhere like $200 million to Dash's measly $50 million. Then the whole mortgage thing now Pro-keds is cutting the cord on their popular shoe line. Stride Rite Corp. has reacquired the rights to the Pro-Keds brand from the financially struggling Dash. But a rep for the company insists the acquisition has nothing to do with his financial issues but just a matter of time, yeah right..

Solange New Album

So the New Solange album, Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams, is on fire. I must say that I have grown to appreciate her apart from her sister, Beyonce. Her new album has an old school Motown feel to it real retro. I love "I decided" and she also has this funky track called "T.O.N.Y." Her vocals have come along way from her debut album, Solo Star, which never really came off the ground. But this time around you can definitely see the growth and the dedication, also you hear some similarities to her big sis Bey. On this project she brought on some top producers including Cee-Lo, Pharrell, Raphael Siddiq and Mark Ronson. Go get a copy!

DC Homegrown- Angel Lola Luv

Many women for some reason hate on her too often and here in DC we need to support our local talent and promote their careers. There is too much hating going on in the city. There have been some reports that Angel will be featured in the new movie being directed by 50 titled, Before I Self Destruct, which is suppose to be released later this year. Hopefully this speculation is true and I commend her for going for what she want, even if you can't please everyone! Congrats to Angel

Are you like me who can't seem, no matter what, to toss those stiletto heels. Well hun you are not alone, join the club as many women are finding these shoes to be a gift and a curse. I have a pair for every pair of heels in my collection, I honestly don't know where my feet may be without them. If you can't live without your heels then check them out!

Standing Corpse- WTF!!

The body of deceased Angel Pantoja Medina stands erect and leans against a wall by his coffin during his own wake in his mother's home in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Monday, Aug. 18, 2008.
The last wish of Medina, 24, who was found dead on Aug. 15, 2008 underneath a bridge in the capital, was to be standing at his own wake. A funeral home used a special embalming treatment to keep the corpse standing upright for his three-day wake.

I mean is this the future of the funerals that are to come... I didn't believe this when I first heard of the story but it's actually true. I never thought this would be considered an option, I always thought you were to be laid to rest lying on something. But this is something strange and really scary if you ask me. The world is definitely changing..

My Weekend

I had a ball this weekend, even though my plans to go Miami were changed. Due to the weather conditions in Miami I decided not to go this weekend. Instead I relaxed on Friday but Friday night, OMG, I really partied like it was the end of time. I went to the H2O instead of the Tradewinds and dammit I am soooo glad. Young Jeezy performed and I mean he shut D.C. down. A couple of friends of mine and of course yours truly got a table in the V.I.P section to the right of the stage. The drinks were pouring while the crowd waited patiently for Jeezy to hit the stage. About 1.30 here comes Jeezy and from the moment he stepped on the stage until the very end of his set the crowd went wild. The only drawback were the position in which the V.I.P sections are located and the fact that the place was packed to capacity. All in all it was a good night, Jeezy is well respected since all the dudes came out to support him. I will put up pics later.

On Saturday, my cousin Paula had her annual Luau (Hawiian style party) at her lovely home. The party started at 6 and ran until, well that's until the neighbors complained and the po-po's showed up around 1.30 am. D.J. Storman Norman was hitting the 1's and 2's, the bottles were popping, the women were dropping it and those in bathing suits were splashing it up. The crowd was off the chain, this year we had a good ratio of men to women, last year their were too many women for me. Overall I had a ball and the fact that my curls fell before 12 am confirms the party was one if not the best party to date. Great Weekend! Stay tuned for pics later

What I find interesting about this website is that there is really know way to verify the accuracy of the alleged information. Could it be a scorned lover or a jealous baby mother? It’s hilarious to read the initial information along with the comments. If you want try doing a little research on your man click here.

My Centro

I really love my smartphone... I just don't know what I would do without it. I was given this phone as a gift from my boyfriend on my birthday and can honestly say this was the best gift I've been given. The phone has helped me become even more organized and on time. I love the picture quality and the battery life is pretty good for a constant user liker myself. If you too want this phone or any smartphone always do your homework. What;s the point of paying an arm and a leg for a shit load of features when you know you'll never use them. Pay attention..

The Hills--Recap

Did you get a chance to watch this season's premiere of the Hills? I can't believe it's finally here and my favorite show is back. Here's a rundown for those of you who are unfamiliar with the Hills, I can't see that happening though. The story is based on this girl named Lauren Conrad who moves to Los Angeles from Laguna Beach to pursue a career in the fashion industry. She meets Heidi Montag and they move in together and are the best of friends. Then Heidi starts dating Spencer who Laurens likes at first then slowly disapproves. Lauren and Heidi's relationship begin to fizzle. She starts an internship at Teen Vogue where she meets Whitney Port.... I can go on and on but in a nutshell the show is built on drama so I'm all for it. I really believe the real star of the show is Audrina, even though they try to push Lauren in everyone's face. Audrina, to me, has much more potential than Lauren, Heidi, Lo and Spencer put together. As far as the housing situation between the girls I do believe as this season continues the fights will get worse and the resentment will prosper. Stay tuned for your weekly crack dose of the Hills, Mondays at 10pm on MTV.

Can I borrow that Bag?

Remember on the Sex In The City movie when Jennifer Hudson’s character told Carrie she borrowed the expensive bag she was carrying? Well what if you too could borrow the bag of your dreams even if you didn’t have a filthy rich friend generous enough to lend it to you. Well I found the site and already borrowed my first bag, Louis Vuitton of course, and you too can do the same just click here.

Day of Remembrance

Stepanie Thomas/ Ukea Davis

The Background
Davis and Thomas met one another four years prior to their murder, as members of the Sexual Minority Youth Action League in Washington, D.C., as both were transitioning to living as women. Thomas was adopted at the age of three months, and according to her mother, Queen Washington, began to identify as female around the age of 8 or 9. Thomas had an accepting family, with support from her mother and siblings, while Davis was raised by a godmother who objected to her emerging gender identity.
Davis identified as transgender at age 15, and Thomas at age 14. According to family members, prior to their transitions to living as women full-time, both Davis and Thomas were regularly beaten up and harassed by people who thought they were gay. Both dropped out of school due to harassment. The two became friends, and eventually roommates, renting an apartment in the 5000 block of C Street SE. Washington had recently bought Thomas a car, because she didn’t like the idea of her daughter walking through their Southeast D.C. neighborhood at night.
The Murders
On the night of August 12, 2002, Davis and Thomas were visiting friends in a nearby apartment when they announced that they were going out to buy cigarettes. The two of them left at about 11:30 p.m. to buy cigarettes at a nearby gas station. That was the last time they were seen until 3:00 a.m. At 3:25 a.m., Davis and Thomas were sitting in Thomas’ Toyota Tercel at the corner of 50th and C Streets SE, less than a block from their apartment.
According to police sources, a black vehicle pulled up beside Thomas’ car. An occupant of the vehicle fired upon Davis and Thomas with a semiautomatic weapon, and then the black vehicle drove away. Another car approached, and a man got out to see what had happened. Davis was already dead, but Thomas moaned in response when the stranger nudged her to see if she was alive. The man fled when the black vehicle returned. The gunman got out of the vehicle and shot Thomas again before driving away.
Thomas and Davis were each shot 10 times in the head and upper body. By the time medical rescue workers arrived at the corner of 50th and C streets SE, both Davis and Thomas were dead. They died at the same corner where Tyra Hunter, an African American transgender woman, lay dying five days and seven years earlier as laughing fire department medical technicians withdrew emergency care upon discovering Hunter was transgender. Hunter died at D.C. General Hospital two hours later, after also having been denied by denied treatment by a doctor. A civil suit ended in a $1.75 million settlement between the city and Hunter’s mother.
The same fire company that responded to Hunter’s accident seven years earlier, Engine Company 30, also responded to the murders of Thomas and Davis. According to witnesses at the crime scene, Thomas’ and Davis’ bodies were dragged from Thomas’ car, and Thomas’ body was dropped face first on the ground. A firefighter later turned Thomas bleeding body over with his foot.
Motive
Police said officially that there was no clear motive in the murders of Davis and Thomas, but they could not dismiss the possibility that the murders were a hate crime. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D, D.C.) wrote to police chief Charles Ramsey asking that the murders of Davis and Thomas be investigated as a hate crime. Ramsey responded with assurances that the murders were being investigated as hate crimes, among other possible motives.
According to Sgt. Brett Parson, of the D.C. police department’s gay and lesbian liaison unit, said that the nature of the shooting, and the number of rounds fired, suggested the murders were “personal” to some degree. Earline said that there were rumors in the community that Davis and Thomas were killed by men who had picked them up without knowing they were transgender. According to family members, upon living as women full-time successfully, Davis and Thomas began to be “accosted” by the men in their neighborhood.
Washington’s mother said she believed her daughter was killed because of her gender identity. According to family members, both Thomas and Davis were “out” about being transgender. Thomas’ mother said everyone in the neighborhood knew Thomas and knew she was transgender. Davis’ sister, Rochelle, said Davis was always “up front” with potential suitors about being transgender.

Who is Tyra Hunter you ask, well she was a transgender person who died on the streets of D.C years ago and was refused treatment due to her personal life decision. Can't we all just get along!

Emonie Spaulding (Sunset- August 21, 2003) was an African American transgender woman from Washington, D.C. On August 21, 2003, she was shot to death by Derrick Antwan Lewis after Lewis discovered Spaulding was transgender

Background
Spaulding, 26, had live in Washington D.C. for two years, and had previously lived in Springfield, MA, and Henderson, NC. Her uncle, John Marshall, remembered her as a child who enjoyed music and sang in the church choir. She was part of a group of friends who frequented an apartment on Mellon Street SE, and the Players lounge, a nightclub in southeast D.C.
The Murder
Spaulding was last seen at 1:15 a.m. on August 21, leaving the Mellon Street apartment, headed to a 24-hour convenience store. At 2:00 a.m., police received report of gunshots being heard in the area of Second Street and Malcolm X Avenue SE.2) Upon responding to the call, police found Spaulding’s nude body in a grassy area seven feet from the street. Spaulding had been shot in the left arm and in the chest. Spaulding also suffered severe blows to the head. No clothing or shell casings were found near Spaulding’s body, leading police to believe she had been shot elsewhere and brought to the location. Her clothing was discovered the next day, dumped on a nearby street.
Spaulding was declared dead at the scene, and was identified at the scene by friends. Her uncle was unable to confirm her identity from the photo he was shown at the medical examiner’s office.
Spaulding was the second transgender woman to be shot, and the second to be killed, in D.C. in less than six days. Her murder came just five days after Bella Evangelista was shot and killed. Dee Andre, another transgender woman, was shot and wounded on the same day as Spaulding.
Investigation
Investigators got their first break in the case upon discovering that Spaulding’s phone had been stolen at the time of the murder. A witness who knew Spaulding informed police of her phone number. Police traced calls placed from the phone and discovered a call was made six minutes after the 911 call reporting gunshots in the area where Spaulding’s body was found, leading to the identification of a suspect in Spaulding’s murder.
The call was placed to a Maryland woman who loaned her car to Lewis on the night Spaulding was killed. The woman told investigators that she had let Lewis borrow her car that night, and that the front area of the car was spattered with blood when he returned it. When he returned the car, Lewis explained to the owner that the blood came from a cut on his hand, received in a fight at a strip club. However, DNA analysis linked the blood spots to Spaulding, and fibers pulled from Spaulding’s clothing were a likely match for the carpet in the car.
The woman also told police that her .38 caliber revolver was missing. Investigators believed, based on bullets recovered from Spaulding’s body, that the weapon used in her murder could have been a .38. Lewis also had carried a gun because he worked in a strip club, and part of his job was to escort dancers to their cars.
Arrest, Arraignment & Release
On August 26, police raided a house in search of Lewis, but missed finding him. Lewis surrendered himself later that day at the headquarters of the D.C. police violent crimes unit. He was charged with second degree murder, and scheduled for arraignment the following day. Police said there was no evidence of premeditation, which is required for a first degree murder charge. Police also said it was unclear whether prostitution or a sex-related discovery had played a role in Spaulding’s murder.
On August 27, over the objections of police and prosecutors, a D.C. Superior Court judge ordered Lewis released on his own recognizance to await trial. The judge noted that Lewis had no prior criminal record, was employed at the time of his arrest, and was not a flight risk due to longstanding ties to the community.
Plea & Sentencing
On March 26, Lewis pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter while armed, saying that he did not want to inflict any further pain on Spaulding’s family. Prosecutors did not allege bias as a motive in Spaulding’s murder, as had been done in Bella Evangelista’s murder. The motive remained undefined until Lewis defense attorney spoke at the hearing. His attorney said that Lewis became angry upon discovering that Spaulding was transgender, and the two began fighting in the car. Lewis, his attorney said, drew the gun in order to force Spaulding out of the car. Lewis was sentenced to 10 years in prison. D.C.’s non-mandatory sentencing guidelines called for a sentence of 7 1/2 to 15 years.
